Each spring sits in its own fabric pocket and moves independently of the ones around it, responding to the weight directly above it rather than the whole bed at once. In practice that means support that follows the shape of the body, and far less of the movement that travels across an ordinary mattress when someone turns over. There is no rolling towards the middle either.

Around the spring unit sits high density foam. It widens the usable sleeping surface right out to the edge, and gives you something firm to sit on when you are putting your shoes on in the morning. On top of that goes a plush 30mm comfort foam layer, which is what gives the mattress its medium-soft feel over a firm, supportive base.
